Chile gets first LNG service station
The Chilean subsidiary of Spain’s LNG company HAM Group said September 15 the first LNG service station in Chile is now set up along a key national highway.
HAM Chile worked with Chilean natural gas company Empresas Lipigas on the design, construction and commissioning of the service station. Lipigas selected Ham for its services last year.

The facility is situated along the Panamerican Highway in Chile, a main thoroughfare in the country.
“Liquefied natural gas is a real option for reducing CO2 in long-distance heavy transport, thus contributing to sustainable development, with the design of efficient energy solutions that help to face the challenge of reducing emissions to the environment,” said Esteban Rodriguez, a business manager at Lipigas.
HAM said that Anheuser-Busch InBev, which recently put 35 LNG-powered trucks in its fleet, is among the initial callers to the service station.
Using LNG as a vehicle fuel is both cleaner and lower-cost than using more conventional fuels, HAM said. The company has been working in South America for several years, specialising in the design, construction, maintenance and supply of CNG-LNG service stations, regasification plants, bunkering and cryogenic tanks for LNG and other liquids.
