UK Rathlin Spuds Another West Newton Well
The UK's Rathlin Energy has spudded its potentially high-impact B-1 well at the West Newton oil and gas field in east Yorkshire, its venture partners reported on October 5.
The appraisal well is a follow-up to the A-2 discovery well completed last year, and will be drilled to a depth of around 2,000 metres over six to ten weeks, Union Jack Oil and Reabold Resources said in statements on October 5. Its aim is to evaluate the extent of the hydrocarbon accumulations found in the Kirkham Abbey formation identified by A-2, and test the reservoir properties of the deeper Cadeby formation.
Rathlin's base-case estimates for the Kirkham Abbey formation are 146.3mn barrels of liquids and 211.5bn ft3 of gas initially in-place. The upside is 283mn barrels of liquids and 265.9bn ft3 of gas.
"With the drilling of the West Newton B-1 well having commenced, we are a key step closer to proving up the significant resource base we believe we have at West Newton," Reabold co-CEO Sachin Oza said. "Reabold's majority interest in the West Newton field means that success could prove transformational for the company and its shareholders."
