Total To Provide Biggest Nordic Battery
A unit of France’s Total has secured an order to supply lithium-ion electricity storage equipment at a 21-MW wind farm in northwestern Finland, it said in a London stock exchange filing on November 20.
Total’s wholly-owned subsidiary Saft will provide three Intensium Max 20 High Energy containers to the project’s operator, Finland’s TuuliWatti, supporting the wind farm’s frequency regulation.
The farm’s energy storage system – the largest in the Nordic region – will be capable of storing 6.6 MWh of energy and delivering 5.6 MWh of power for frequency regulation. Its 2.2-MWh containers will be manufactured in Saft’s production site in Bordeaux, France.
“This contract is an early commercial success for Saft’s latest lithium-ion energy storage system, launched in May 2019,” Saft’s vice president for energy storage, Herve Amosse, said. “The Intensium Max 20 HE container offers more than twice the energy storage capacity of previous Saft containers and provides best-in-class energy density, lifetime and assured performance.”
