Spanish LNG Imports Up 86.4% In Aug

Spanish LNG imports surged by 86.4% in August to 25.1TWh, data published by terminal operator Enagas on September 13 shows.

LNG shipments came to 26.1TWh, versus 14TWh in the same month last year, while overall gas imports increased 25.9% to 38.1TWh. Qatar was the largest supplier of LNG in August, shipping 7.3TWh, while Russia provided 5.4TWh and Nigeria 4.9TWh. LNG also came from Trinidad & Tobago (2.6TWh), Belgium (2.1TWh), Angola (1TWh), Algeria (0.995TWh), the US (0.979TWh) and Norway (0.869TWh).

Piped supplies from Algeria fell 46.4% yr/yr to 7.4TWh, while deliveries from France doubled to 4.5TWh.

Spanish gas demand has spiked this year as a result of hot weather, limited hydropower capacity and a reduction in coal-fired power generation. LNG imports across Europe have been on the rise, owing to increased supply and weaker demand in Asia.
