Sinopec ups Fuling Shale Gas Reserves
State-run Sinopec on October 14 announced it had increased its estimate for proven reserves at the Fuling shale gas field by almost 192bn m3.
Fuling's proven reserves are now assessed at 793bn m3, Sinopec said, adding that its total proven shale gas reserves in China stood at 941bn m3. The reserves have been certified by the ministry of natural resources.
Fuling became operational in 2013 and is located in central southwest China’s Sichuan basin, serving as a key source for the Sichuan-East gas pipeline. It passed the 30bn-m3 cumulative production milestone earlier this year.
The Sichuan basin is one of China's major shale gas-producing regions. A total of four shale fields have been discovered there in recent years: Fuling, Weiyuan, Changning and Weirong.
