Sinopec produces record shale gas at Fuling

Sinopec-operated Fuling shale field in China's Chongqing Municipality has produced record volumes of shale gas this year, the company said on November 21.

From January 1 to November 17, the output was at a record 6.34bn m3. The state-owned company did not provide any year/year comparison.

“Since the beginning of this year, the speed of surface engineering in the gas field has increased by more than 30%, and the speed and efficiency of drilling and fracturing construction have been significantly improved,” Sinopec said.

Fuling became operational in 2014 and serves as a key source of supply for the Sichuan-East pipeline. Sinopec recently added 104.9bn m3 of proven reserves, bringing the field’s total proven reserves to nearly 900bn m3, accounting for 34% of China's total proven reserves of shale gas.

Sinopec earlier this year said it plans to produce 1,256.7bn ft3 or 35.59bn m3 of natural gas in 2022, up 4.8% yr/yr. The growth target this year is much lower than the growth rate of 11.9% in 2021.
