Sinopec finds shale gas in Sichuan basin
Chinese state-owned energy company Sinopec has discovered a new shale gas field, with proven reserves of about 146bn m3, in the Sichuan basin, it said on November 25.
This gas field is located in Qijiang district and Xishui County of Guizhou province. The depth of shale layers in the Qijiang shale gas field ranges from 1,900 m to 4,500 m, and the main part is deeper than 3,500 m, Sinopec said.
Sinopec said it attaches great importance to deep shale gas exploration and has innovated and formed a new understanding of shale gas geological theory in complex structural areas.
The company earlier this week said its Fuling shale field in Chongqing Municipality had produced record volumes of shale gas this year.
