Qatar Petroleum Looks at Global Expansion

World’s biggest LNG exporter, Qatar Petroleum (QP), is looking to expand globally, news agency Reuters reported Thursday citing the Gulf state's energy minister.

Company’s global focus is driven by Qatar’s self-imposed moratorium on further development of North Field and competition from suppliers from U.S., Australian and African.

"Our new vision is to be world class oil and gas corporation with its roots in Qatar and a strong international presence," Energy Minister Mohammed Bin Saleh Al-Sada said at the launch of a strategy plan, Reuters reported.

Global expansion would be in the shape of buying assets abroad, as it is unlikely to expand organically given QP’s small size, the news agency quoted the minster as saying.
