Poland receives 1st LNG cargo via Lithuania

Poland's PGNiG has received its first cargo of LNG via Lithuania's regasification terminal in Klaipeda, the company announced on May 6, making use of a gas pipeline connecting the two countries that was commissioned two days earlier.

The 65,000-metric ton cargo arrived at Klaipeda on board the Aristidis I LNG carrier, and was shipped from a liquefaction plant in the Texan port of Freeport, in the US.

PGNiG said the delivery was a milestone in its push to build a strong position on the international LNG trading market, and that cooperation with the Klaipeda terminal's operator Klaipedos Nafta "will be a strong impulse for further integration of the gas markets of Poland and the Baltic States, increasing the region's energy security based on diversified gas fuel supplies."
