PGNiG Strikes Polish LNG Sales Deal

Polish gas company PGNiG has signed a deal to deliver LNG to a plant that South Korea's LG Chem plans to build near Wroclaw to produce electric car batteries, it said on June 8.

Under the deal, PGNiG said it would supply nearly 19,000 mt of LNG via trucks to the site until 2025. It will deliver the fuel to a temporary mobile installation until it completes a regasification station at the site in December 2020. PGNiG hailed the deal as its largest ever LNG sales contract. 

PGNiG expects to see a growth in small-scale industrial LNG use in Poland in the coming years, as the fuel not only "guarantees efficient production, but also a positive ecological effect." The company is the sole importer of LNG from the Swinoujscie regasification terminal in the north of the country, which is due to undergo an expansion.

Poland has steadily increased its LNG imports in recent years, as part of efforts to reduce its reliance on Russian supplies and coal-fired power.
