ONGC Starts Drilling for Shale Gas in Eastern India

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has commenced drilling for shale gas at the Kanteri village in the state of Jharkhand in eastern India, according to Times of India.

The company is already drilling for coal bed methane in four districts of the state.

Besides, Kanteri gas was also available in three other villages - Dangia, Taleswaa and Chemgara, Times of India reported citing a company official.

The company official said that ONGC's gas production has started from the Jharia belt in Dhanbad district and commercial operation will begin soon.

He said that in the four districts of Jharkhand the expected production of coal bearing methane gas will be 10 millium metre cube of gas when it will start production between six months to one year's time sometime in 2014, Times of India reported.
