ONGC, EverEnviro to establish 10 compressed biogas plants across India
Indian state-owned energy major ONGC and Gurugram-based renewable energy company EverEnviro Resource Management have announced a joint venture to set up 10 compressed biogas (CBG) plants across India. The companies disclosed the partnership in a joint statement on May 30.
The 50:50 joint venture aims to harness diverse feedstocks such as agricultural waste, agro-industrial waste, energy crops, and municipal solid waste to mitigate approximately 750,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent annually.
“ONGC has set sights on being net zero by 2038 and hence we recognize the urgency of transition to clean energy by utilizing agro-industrial waste and municipal solid waste. Our partnership with EverEnviro in establishing CBG plants will significantly contribute to mitigating carbon emissions,” said Satyan Kumar, executive director, at ONGC.
Deepak Agarwal, executive director, at EverEnviro, expressed confidence in the joint venture’s impact on the CBG sector. “The fermented organic manure produced as a byproduct of CBG will promote regenerative agriculture, enhancing soil health and fertility in the catchment areas,” he said.
EverEnviro aims to establish over 100 CBG plants across India, utilising diverse feedstocks, including municipal solid waste, agricultural waste, and agro-industrial waste. The company is currently executing more than 20 CBG projects in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Punjab, with a capital investment of nearly 20bn rupees ($240mn), resulting in an output of 320 tonnes/day of CBG.
