Carbon Clean, Petronas CCS Solutions sign MoU
Carbon Clean, a carbon capture solutions provider, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Petronas CCS Solutions (PCCSS), a unit of Petronas, to collaborate on and evaluate carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology, the company announced on August 28.
Under the MoU, Carbon Clean and PCCSS will jointly assess carbon capture technology, aiming to identify synergies and explore opportunities for future collaboration. The partnership will focus on evaluating various methods of carbon capture for potential integration into different areas of Petronas' operations.
The primary focus of the MoU will be on Carbon Clean’s CycloneCC solution, which the company claims can reduce the total installed cost of carbon capture by up to 50% compared to conventional solutions. Both companies will work together to explore and develop the use of this modular technology for post-combustion CO2 capture.
"Carbon Clean is proud to support Petronas in achieving its net zero targets by providing a cost-effective approach to carbon capture. CycloneCC’s modular design enables companies to stagger their investment, adding units in line with their decarbonisation goals," said Aniruddha Sharma, CEO of Carbon Clean.
CycloneCC’s design allows for quick installation and easy integration with existing operations. It occupies up to 50% less space than conventional carbon capture solutions, with equipment that is 10 times smaller. The technology uses rotating packed bed technology, which employs centrifugal force to enhance the efficiency of the carbon capture process.
