Oman's Sohar Port partners with Marsa LNG for LNG bunkering project
Oman's Sohar Port and Freezone has signed a pact with Marsa LNG, a joint venture between Total Energies and OQ, to develop a $1.6bn LNG liquefaction project at Sohar Port, it announced on April 28. This initiative aims to establish Sohar Port as an LNG bunkering hub in the region.
The LNG bunkering project, powered entirely by 100% solar electricity, will cover an area of 44.5 hectares within the port's premises.
"The LNG bunkering project exemplifies our shared dedication to pioneering innovation and sustainability. We`re honored to collaborate with Sohar Port on this pioneering initiative that promises to shape the future of our industry,” Sergio Giorgi, managing director, Marsa LNG said.
Total Energies recently reached the final investment decision on the Marsa LNG project in Oman. With LNG production set to commence by 2028, the project aims to capitalise on the burgeoning LNG bunkering market in the Gulf region, catering to the evolving needs of the maritime industry.
