Daily Independent: Nigeria: Attacks On Gas Pipelines Hamper Power Generation - FG
The Federal Government has lamented that the continuing vandalisation of pipelines supplying gas to power plants is undermining effort to boost power generation in the country.
Government disclosed that at least 20 incidences of vandalism have occurred on major gas pipelines across the country since May this year.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Power, Godknows Igali, told reporters in Abuja that Nigerians must join hands with government to check the activities of the vandals to allow the sector make progress.
Igali, who was represented by the Senior Advisor on Fuel to Power to the Minister of Power, Frank Edozien, at a meeting with journalists and heads of media units in government agencies in the ministry, noted that with present generation capacity of about 7000mw, the country is now generating 3600mw due to vandalisation of gas pipelines.
