Nabucco: No link to Iran

The Nabucco pipeline consortium today confirmed that it has no current plans for a feeder line from the Iranian border.

“Due to the current political situation, Nabucco Gas Pipeline International is not planning a third one to the Turkish-Iranian border so far."

“There will be a feeder line to the Turkish-Georgian and to the Turkish-Iraqi border. The planned route offers a wide range of supply sources for the Nabucco gas pipeline, which will receive gas from Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Iraq.”

The announcement provides confirmation to an earlier statement by Nabucco spokesperson. that the geopolitical climate wasn't favorable for an Iranian role in the project.

Iran is eager to join Nabucco. However, Western officials have been ruling out Iranian participation.
