"Let's not vilify any form of energy": Tellurian CEO
It is imperative to avoid vilifying specific forms of energy to forge a sustainable path through the energy transition, the head of LNG project developer Tellurian, Octavio Simoes, said during a session at the World Gas Conference in Daegu, South Korea, on May 24.
Transition is a "dangerous" word, particularly if societies decide to transition towards energy solutions that "don't exist today", as that would have severe implications for energy security if those solutions do not emerge, Simoes said.

Simoes noted that the developing world still had significant energy needs, and needed to use whatever kind of energy was available to lift more citizens out of energy poverty. A compelling low-carbon solution like natural gas appeals in these circumstances, he added, as developing nations will be averse to depending too much on wind and solar generation.
"Let us not vilify any form of energy, not even coal, because we need it for other things than just burning it. Let's not vilify gas or oil or solar or wind - let us embrace all forms and create the path that really allows us to make a difference," Simoes said.
