Kinetiko Gets Three Exploration Rights in South Africa
Australia listed and Africa focused Kinetiko Energy has been granted three exploration applications near its Amersfoort Project in South Africa by country’s oil and gas regulator.
The highly prospective gas area is spread over approximately 4,288 sq. km.
South Africa’s energy regulator, PASA will submit an Environmental Management Plan, stakeholder consultation process and collation of titles deeds by the 4th December 2013 at which point the applications will be evaluated by government, Kinetiko said.
Since July 2012, Kinetiko has acquired data and evaluated the four granted TCP areas surrounding the Amersfoort Project it applied for. The company has relinquished TCP38 as it was deemed not geologically prospective for gas.
Overall the company has retained and made ER applications for 66% of the three TCP areas, which are prospective for gassy sandstones, mudstones and gassy coal measures, Kinetiko said.
In 2012 Gustavson Associates evaluated the four granted TCP areas (7,890Km2) and indicated a Prospective Resource Estimate of 9.3TCF Gas In Place (GIP).
Kinetiko has also made two further TCP applications since end 2012 for which approval is awaited.
The Amersfoort project is located in South Africa’s Mpumalanga region, 250 km east of Johannesburg. Mpumalanga is a highly prospective area for coal-bed methane (CBM) with well documented, gassy coal measures and with gassy sandstones overlying the coal horizons
