KazMunayGas, CNPC discuss cooperation in geological exploration, gas processing

KazMunayGas (KMG), Kazakhstan's national oil and gas company, and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) have discussed cooperation in geological exploration and opportunities for further gas processing, KMG announced on July 1.

The discussions covered joint production activities in the Mangistau and Kyzylorda regions, prospects for geological exploration, and opportunities for further gas processing.

“Given the importance of accelerating gas projects in Kazakhstan, the parties are exploring opportunities for processing hydrocarbons from the Central Urikhtau field at the Zhanazhol oil and gas refining complex,” KMG stated.

Last month, KMG and Karachaganak Petroleum reviewed the progress of the gas processing plant project at the Karachaganak field, aiming to process 4.5 billion cubic meters per year of raw gas. Commissioned in 1979, the Karachaganak field is located in northwest Kazakhstan and is a joint venture involving Eni (29.25%), Shell (29.25%), Chevron (18%), Lukoil (13.5%), and KMG (10%). It is operated by an international consortium.

Earlier this year, Italian energy company Eni and KMG formalised an agreement for a 250 MW hybrid renewables-gas project in Zhanaozen City, Mangystau Region, Kazakhstan.
