KazMunayGas, Karachaganak discuss progress on gas processing plant
The state-owned oil and gas company of Kazakhstan, KazMunayGas (KMG), and Karachaganak Petroleum have discussed the progress of the gas processing plant project at the Karachaganak field, which aims to process 4.5bn m3/year of raw gas, KMG announced on June 14.
To maintain production levels at 10-11mn tonnes/year, the field operator Karachaganak is currently implementing a project to install additional 5th and 6th gas recirculation compressors to maintain pressure and increase oil yield.
In light of Western Europe's demand for Kazakhstani hydrocarbons, the topic of exporting Karachaganak oil was also raised. Last year, about 1mn tonnes of Karachaganak oil was transported to Germany for the first time, and 500,000 tonnes of oil were delivered in May this year. It is estimated that more than 1mn tonnes of oil will be transported by the end of 2024.
The Karachaganak field was commissioned in 1979 and is located in north-west Kazakhstan. KPO is a joint venture of Eni (29.25%), Shell (29.25%), Chevron (18%), Lukoil (13.5%), and KMG (10%).
