Japanese trio to study feasibility of CCUS in Hokkaido
Idemitsu, Hokkaido Electric Power Co., and Japan Petroleum Exploration Co. (Japex) will undertake a joint study for implementing a carbon dioxide capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS) project in the Tomakomai area of Hokkaido, they said on January 26.
The Tomakomai area has a number of industries around the port, including the three companies' business sites and is a leading region to make efforts for a carbon-neutrality, they said.
The trio plans to implement the CCUS project using the hub and cluster model connecting several sites in the Tomakomai area by fiscal 2030. The companies will proceed will specific investigations such as technical verifications of CO2 emitting sites, capture facilities, transportation pipelines and site survey for CO2 storage.
