Daily Times: Ghana steps up gas supply, reduce dependence on Nigeria
Ghana has stepped up its gas from its offshore Jubilee oil field as it is planning to reduce its dependence on ‘unreliable’ gas supply from Nigeria.
Ghana’s government said it is taking this decision against the backdrop of the strike undertaken by workers of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation in September which led to another stoppage of gas supply to Ghana through the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP) system.
The government stated that it has begun processing gas from its offshore Jubilee oil field through a pipeline project that could save the government over $300 million a year on fuel costs, while two more gas fields are expected to come on stream by 2017 to add to Jubilee, which is operated by British firm Tullow Oil.
