Gazprom Sees Record Non-FSU Sales
Russia's Gazprom set an all-time record for gas sales to European countries beyond the former Soviet Union in January, the company reported on February 1.
Supplies reached 19.4bn m3 in the month, up 45.4% year on year. Germany increased purchases by 32.4%, Italy by 221.5%, Turkey by 20.8%, France by 77.3%, the Netherlands by 21.2% and Poland by 89.9%. Sales to China via the Power of Siberia continued to rise, surpassing contractual volumes by 2.5%.

Gas demand has surged on the back of cold weather in Asia and Europe in recent weeks. Higher spot prices in Asia drove some LNG away from Europe, clearing the way for Gazprom to expand shipments.
Speaking at the European Gas Conference in late January, Gazprom Export boss Elena Burmistrova attributed the steep rise in sales last year to the company's more flexible pricing approach and its electronic sales platform (ESP) where trade was growing fast. The company sold 27bn m3 on the ESP last year, almost twice the volume in 2019, she said.
