Will Gazprom’s Communication Efforts Mend Strained Ties Between Moscow And Ankara?
As Russia’s President Vladimir Putin was meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Khloponin to discuss developments in the North Caucasus region, Gazprom’s media machine started roaring again.
Several European PR companies are working to promote the image of Russia’s gas giant, and South Stream Transport also opened a Senior Communications Expert Turkey position in Amsterdam.
‘Communications in Turkey are a key factor in the success of this multibillion euro project, and the job therefore offers the opportunity to contribute directly to the implementation of the biggest energy infrastructure Project in the world today’ South Stream wrote on its website.
Meanwhile, Turkey and Russia are at loggerheads over incursions into Turkey’s airspace by Russian aircraft.
“I made clear that NATO remains strongly committed to Turkey’s security. I will convene a meeting of the North Atlantic Council later today to discuss the situation. Russia’s actions are not contributing to the security and stability of the region” Stoltenberg said after the meeting.
CYPRUS ISSUE
The ties between Turkey and the EU also depends on the negotiations to solve the Cyprus issue.
Finally, Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades said on Sunday that a deal is not anywhere near.
“The effort is to find a way to minimize the differences, which today may seem big, as it happened in a number of issues in the past, where there was a gap in the views but in the end there are convergences” Anastasiades said.
