Ferc Approves Mexican Crossing Projects
The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (Ferc) on February 15 issued certificates authorising Texas Eastern Transmission’s South Texas Expansion Project (Step) and its acquisition, by lease, of all the capacity on a proposed 21 km interstate pipeline connecting with its system.
Together, the two authorisations will provide for 396mn ft3/day of transportation capacity to Mexico’s state-owned electric utility, the Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE).
The bulk of the $137.3mn Step involves construction of 16,800 hp of new compression capacity in Nueces and Matagorda counties in Texas and various upgrades and modifications elsewhere on the Tetco system in Texas. Tetco will lease capacity on the proposed Pomelo Connector to effect transportation service to CFE.
