Far East gas pipeline expansion nearly complete
Russian energy company Gazprom said November 11 that an expansion program for a gas pipeline feeding the nation’s Far East region is in its final stages.
Gazprom said that as many of 376 km of the total 390.8 km of linear sections of the Sakhalin-Khabarovsk-Vladivostok (SKV) pipeline had been welded in place, laid and backfilled.

“It is planned to finish the construction and installation operations this year,” the company said.
Expansions to the 5.5bn m3/yr pipeline will increase supplies to domestic consumers in the Far East and potentially facilitate additional sales to China in the future.
SKV was commissioned in 2011 and carries gas from Gazprom's fields off the east coast of Sakhalin Island. It currently handles gas from the Kirinskoye field, which started up in 2015 and has a 5.5bn m3/yr design capacity.
In the future, it may also carry gas from the South-Kirinskoye, Lunskoye and Mynginskoye fields. South-Kirinskoye is due online in 2023 and should produce 21bn m3/year at its peak.
Gazprom said its total investments in the expansion project are pegged at 5.49bn rubles (US$76.96mn).
