China's Fuling shale gas field passes production milestone
Sinopec's Fuling shale gas field in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality has produced over 60bn m3 of shale gas since it began commercial production in 2014, state-owned news agency Xinhua reported on October 10 citing a company statement.
The Fuling shale gas field is one of the largest and most productive shale gas fields in China. It is also one of the most important sources of shale gas for the country, accounting for 34% of the country’s total proven reserves of shale gas.
Sinopec in late 2021 added 104.9bn m3 of proven reserves to the Fuling field, bringing the total proven reserves to nearly 900bn m3.
Last year, Fuling produced a record 7.2bn m3 of shale gas, up 0.5% year/year. More than 650 old wells in Fuling contributed about 6.5bn m3 of production.
