Central Europe Energy Partner Calls Attention to North-South Corridor

The European Commission (EC) is reportedly working to extend its list of “Project of Common Interests” while Eastern European organisations are voicing their interest for regional projects.  

On Wednesday, for instance, Central Europe Energy Partner (CEEP) renewed its backing to the North-South Corridor, a set of interrelated energy infrastructure projects that would connect Central European markets.

“We believe the Corridor should be realised piece-by-piece, as supply and demand develop in relevant markets. This would allow some projects to be built on a market-based business case and financed through national operators, using established funding and financing instruments,” Paweł Olechnowicz, Chairman of the Board of Directors of CEEP, commented in a note.

CEEP commented on the results of an analysis by Roland Berger Strategy Consultants, which said that a “piece-by-piece” approach is indispensable to the gas Corridor that would connect the Baltic to the Adriatic Sea. 

‘Its authors and contributors underlined that realising key components of the Corridor before the end of the decade should be a joint commitment of the European Commission, national governments, and transmission system operators, as well as supporting financiers’ reads the note.

Also on Wednesday, Azerbaijan’s news agency Trend wrote that the EC could soon include the Tesla gas pipeline into its list of “Project of Common Interests”. 

“The European Commission is currently in the process of updating its list of so called “Project of Common Interests” (PCIs) in the field of energy infrastructure,” the source in the European Commission reportedly told Trend.
