Canadian Regulator Sets Hearing in CGL Challenge
Canada’s National Energy Board (NEB) said January 31 it will hold oral summary arguments in Calgary beginning in late April in the case seeking to have the Coastal GasLink pipeline project moved under federal jurisdiction.
The regulator has already issued deadlines for written evidence and information requests in the case, which was filed last summer by BC environmentalist Michael Sawyer. Coastal GasLink (CGL) is the C$6.2bn (US$4.7bn) pipeline that will move feed gas some 670 km from northeastern BC to LNG Canada’s 14mn metric tons/year liquefaction facility at Kitimat, on BC’s northern coast.

Once the written evidence and information requests and responses have been filed, the board will hold a two-part final argument process – written and oral.
CGL must file its written final argument by April 2, while intervenors, if they choose to do so, must file written final argument by April 16. Participants who do not file written final argument will not be permitted to participate in the oral summary argument phase.
Oral summary arguments will be heard in Calgary between April 29 and May 3, with CGL having the opportunity to provide oral reply argument to intervenors’ oral summary argument.
