Canadian Regulator Extends CGL Filing Deadline

Round one in the jurisdictional review of the Coastal GasLink (CGL) pipeline project has gone to CGL, with the National Energy Board (NEB) issuing a new schedule December 21 that extends by four weeks the deadline for CGL to file additional evidence.

CGL had requested the extension, to January 25, 2019 from December 28, 2018, claiming that three weeks, especially over the Christmas holiday season, was insufficient to pull together the “technical and multi-faceted” evidence the board would need.

Only BC environmentalist Michael Sawyer, who lodged the request for the jurisdictional review with the NEB, objected to the extension. All other intervenors who responded to the board’s request for comments on the matter either supported CGL’s request or offered no opinion.

In its decision on the matter, the board accepted the request for an extension to January 25, 2019 and added five days to the time that will be given to parties to respond to any information requests. A date for final oral arguments, originally contemplated in March 2019, remains to be determined.
