Baker Hughes to supply compressor trains for Petronas FLNG facility

Baker Hughes has won an order to supply two LM9000-driven compressor trains for the Petronas floating LNG facility in Sabah, Malaysia, it said on April 19.

The order has been placed by Black & Veatch, a subcontractor to the JGC and Samsung Heavy Industries consortium. Japan’s JGC and Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries were awarded the engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning contract for the nearshore FLNG facility project in January this year.

Baker Hughes will provide two LM9000-powered compressor trains of 1mn metric ton/year each. The contract also includes an order for spare parts.

JGC's main responsibilities will cover the engineering, procurement and commissioning work for the FLNG topside, the associated onshore facilities, as well as the management of the overall project. Samsung Heavy Industries will be responsible for the FLNG hull EPC work and the modular fabrication of the topside.

Upon completion, the nearshore LNG plant will increase Petronas’ LNG production from floating LNG facilities from 2.7mn mt/yr to 4.7mn mt/yr. At present, the company operates two floating LNG facilities, the PFLNG Satu and PFLNG Dua, at the Kebabangan and Rotan offshore gas fields respectively.
