Australian Origin 3Q Production up 31%

Australian Origin Energy reported April 28 reported its January-March 2017 production was boosted by the start up of production from Australia Pacific LNG’s second train (APLNG). That quarter's production was 79.7 petajoules (2.13 bn m³), up 31% from the same quarter a year before.

APLNG shipped 27 LNG cargoes during the period, and, in early April, it produced and shipped its 100th cargo. APLNG production (100%) was 151.4 petajoules (4bn m3, or 2.93mn metric tons) during the quarter, an increase of 1% compared from October-December 2016.

For the nine months that ended March 31 2017, production was 234 petajoules (6.25bn m³) representing a 43% increase on the prior corresponding period. This was primarily driven by increased production at Australia Pacific LNG and Otway. Revenue of A$1.54bn represented a 104% increase on the prior corresponding period due to increased production and higher average commodity prices.

Meanwhile, reacting to the Australian government’s intention to introduce an domestic gas security mechanism, Origin said APLNG, in which Origin owns a 37.5% interest, is a net contributor to the domestic gas market, and will continue to support domestic customers for many years to come. APLNG has been a net contributor to the domestic market since its inception in 2008 and currently provides around 20 per cent of east coast gas supply, the company informed.
