ADNOC, Baker Hughes collaborate to advance hydrogen tech
Adnoc and Baker Hughes have signed an agreement to accelerate the development and commercialisation of technology solutions for low-carbon and green hydrogen, as well as graphene, the UAE-based company said on May 10.
This collaboration builds upon a strategic technology collaboration agreement signed between the two companies in November 2022. As part of the agreement, Adnoc will collaborate with Baker Hughes to pilot the deployment of hydrogen solutions from the latter’s portfolio of decarbonisation technologies, which include graphene, methane pyrolysis and next-generation electrolysis technologies.
Adnoc will leverage Baker Hughes’ expertise and portfolio to test and develop solutions to produce low-cost green hydrogen and graphene at scale, as part of its efforts to decarbonise operations. The collaboration will involve exploring three emerging technologies that Baker Hughes has invested in.
Firstly, Adnoc and Baker Hughes will pilot next-generation electrolyser technology from Nemesys, to assess the feasibility of installing and operating an electrolyzer at the Adnoc Research and Innovation Center in Abu Dhabi.
Secondly, the companies will field test methane plasma technology from Levidian to capture carbon in the form of high-quality graphene and hydrogen in Adnoc Gas’ facilities. The graphene produced will be tested for industrial use cases by researchers at Khalifa University.
Finally, the companies will explore the use of Ekona Power’s methane pyrolysis technology to produce low-greenhouse gas intensity hydrogen.
