Yamal-Europe pipe to close for maintenance July 6-10
The Yamal-Europe pipeline that carries Russian gas to central Europe will be closed between July 6 and 10 so that scheduled maintenance can take place, Gazprom said on June 28.
The schedule for the downtime was agreed last year, and both Gazprom and its customers have accounted for the closure in their plans, the Russian firm said.
Yamal-Europe runs through Belarus and Poland, terminating in east Germany. It can carry up to 33bn m3/year of gas and is one of Gazprom's main gas arteries into Europe alongside the Ukrainian system and the Nord Stream and TurkStream pipelines.
The pipeline's closure comes amid extreme summer prices at European gas hubs as traders try to refill storage facilities after a long, cold winter. TurkStream has also been offline for maintenance since June 22 and is due to resume operations on June 29, while Nord Stream is scheduled to halt shipments in July 13-25. The summer maintenance could provide a further boost to gas prices, analysts at BCS Global Markets said last week.
