Woodside Submits Scarborough Proposal for Public Comments

Australian Woodside June 5 said it has submitted an offshore project proposal (OPP) for activities related to Scarborough gas resource to the National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environment Management Authority (NOPSEMA), inviting public comments. The OPP has been submitted in accordance with the Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage (Environment) Regulations 2009. 

“The public comment period provides an opportunity for the public to review and comment on the OPP, which evaluates the potential environmental impacts and risks associated with activities to be conducted over the life of the proposed offshore Scarborough development,” Woodside said. The Scarborough OPP will be available for public comment from July 5 to August 30, 2019.

Woodside is proposing to develop the Scarborough gas resource, located in the Carnarvon Basin, approximately 375 km west-northwest of the Burrup Peninsula in Western Australia. Its preferred concept for development of the 7.3 trillion ft³ Scarborough gas resource is through new offshore facilities connected by a 430-km export pipeline to the Burrup Peninsula with onshore processing at the expanded Pluto LNG facility in Western Australia.

The new offshore facilities will initially have seven high-rate, subsea gas wells tied back to a semi-submersible floating production unit moored in 900m of water close to the Scarborough field.
