Woodside signs on to zero methane emissions initiative
Woodside Energy has become the first company in Australasia to join the OGCI's Aiming for Zero Methane Emissions Initiative, the company announced on September 23.
OGCI, which includes 12 of the world's largest oil and gas companies, launched the pledge in March this year, targeting a reduction in industry methane emissions from operated assets to nearly zero by the end of the decade. Since then a number of other companies in the industry have signed up.
“Woodside’s historic focus on managing methane emissions means that we are already at less than 0.1% of our production by volume - well below the OGCI’s 2025 methane intensity target of below 0.2%," Woodside CEO Meg O'Neill said in a statement. “Signing this initiative is an example of our commitment to meeting our own emissions reduction targets, and to encouraging our entire industry to join this effort."
