Wood pens $46mn deal with TotalEnergies for Gas Growth Integrated Project in Iraq

Engineering company Wood has been awarded a new $46mn, three-year contract by TotalEnergies for the Gas Growth Integrated Project (GGIP) in Iraq, it said on June 12.

Under this contract, Wood will provide front-end engineering design (FEED), detailed design, procurement support, and construction and commissioning assistance for the first phase of the associated gas upstream project, which is part of the GGIP in Southern Iraq.

The GGIP involves an investment of approximately $10bn to design and construct facilities for recovering significant volumes of flared gas throughout the Basra region. The recovered gas will be supplied to power stations. Additionally, the project includes a 1GW seawater treatment and distribution system to supply water for injection into oil reservoirs for pressure maintenance purposes.

The GGIP consortium comprises Basra Oil Company (30%), TotalEnergies (operator - 45%), and QatarEnergy (25%).

“This project will improve environmental sustainability through emissions reduction efforts. As part of this agreement, Wood will also continue to invest in local employment and skills development in the Basra region,” said Shaun Dewar, senior vice president at Wood.

In January this year, Vallourec, a provider of tubular solutions, signed a contract with TotalEnergies for the supply of casing, tubing, and associated accessories for the first phase of the GGIP. Vallourec is set to deliver 15,000 tonnes of various tubes and connections for the initial thirty wells of the project.
