Wood Group Wins Culzean Job
Wood Group said July 10 it has been awarded a new contract by Maersk to deliver mechanical and management services for the hook-up and commissioning of the Culzean gas condensate field in the UK central North Sea.
The award comes as Culzean jackets are on their way from the Netherlands to the field for installation.
Wood Group said that, at peak manning, some 200 new jobs will be created by the project to support the new three platform, high-pressure, high-temperature (HPHT) development which is expected to begin production in 2019. The three-year contract is effective immediately but the company did not disclose its value.
On July 7, Dutch fabricator Heerema announced it had completed construction of the Culzean jackets for Maersk, and that the jacket for the central processing facilities platform set sail June 28 from its yard at Vlissingen, followed July 7 by the jacket for the utility and living quarter platform.
Maersk Oil began drilling the first production well last September on its $4.5bn Culzean gas field development which it expects to deliver 5% of the UK's gas supply by 2020/21. At 1Q results in mid-May, Maersk said that Culzean remains "on schedule and within budget," noting that preparations for this summer's installation of Culzean’s two remaining jackets was "well advanced". Joint venture partners are BP and Japan's JX Nippon.
