Encouraging Signs for Transerv as Warro-4 Drilling Hits Target Depth
Australia’s Transerv Energy is preparing a stimulation program for Warro-4 after announcing successful drilling of the well, located on the Warro tight gas field in Western Australia, situated in the onshore Perth basin.
The field is estimated to contain a proven plus probable resource of 1.1 trillion cubic feet, with gas in place estimated at between 8 Tcf and 10 Tcf.
The Warro-4 well was drilled to a total target depth of 4137 metres and penetrated gas bearing reservoir sands in the Lower Yarragadee section.
According to Transerv, the reservoir interval was intersected at 3750 metres and encountered about 230 metres of potential reservoir sandstone with strong hydrocarbon indications across the interval.
Transerv will now begin detailed petro-physical work to identify the most suitable zones for fracture stimulation.
The stimulation program will cover two primary sandstone intervals and is expected to take place once the Halliburton equipment required arrives from Southern Australia.
Australian mining giant Alcoa is funding the drilling and development of Warro-4 under an agreement which will see it earn a 65% stake in the tight gas field in return for spending up to A$100 million (US$107.8 million) on appraisal and development activities. Transerv will retain a 35% interest and operatorship of the project.
Warro-4 was completed ahead of schedule and almost 25% faster than the nearby Warro-3 well that flowed gas at over 5 million cubic feet per day in 2009.
