WA court rejects Woodside LNG challenge
The Supreme Court of Western Australia on March 1 dismissed the two proceedings challenging the Pluto LNG and Karratha Gas Plant environmental approvals made in 2019, Woodside, which operates the projects, said in a statement.
Woodside said it welcomes the court’s decisions and continues to progress the Scarborough and Pluto Train 2 projects and the start-up of the Pluto-KGP Interconnector.

WA's Environmental Protection Authority agreed in 2019 to remove restrictions on the projects. The approvals were challenged in 2020 by the Conservation Council of Western Australia (CCWA), an environment body. CCWA last year started separate supreme court proceedings challenging the Pluto Train 2 project works approval. A hearing date is yet to be set, Woodside said.
Australia's biggest gas producer took final investment decisions on Scarborough and Pluto Train 2 developments in November last year, including new domestic gas facilities and modifications to Pluto Train 1.
