Venture Global Reveals New US LNG Project

US LNG developer Venture Global said May 3 the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (Ferc) had accepted its pre-filing request for a new LNG project on the Mississippi River south of New Orleans, Louisiana.

The Delta LNG project, Venture Global said, contemplates a 20mn mt/yr liquefaction and export terminal as well as the associated Delta Express pipeline.

“Delta LNG will allow us to accommodate additional customer demand beyond Plaquemines while replicating the industry-changing, low-cost approach taken by our Calcasieu Pass and Plaquemines projects,” Venture Global co-CEOs Bob Pender and Mike Sabel said. “We are excited to be under construction and in development on a total of 50mn mt/yr of liquefaction capacity, to bring North American natural gas to the world.”

Also on May 3, Venture Global said that the Ferc had issued a final environmental impact statement (EIS) for its 20mn mt/yr Plaquemines LNG facility in Louisiana. A final Ferc order approving the project is expected by August 1, 2019, the company said, and the project remains on schedule for a final investment decision and construction start in late 2019, with commercial operations expected in 2023.

“We thank Ferc for [its] timely issuance of the final EIS, which is an important regulatory milestone for our Plaquemines project,” Pender and Sabel said. “Plaquemines LNG has a binding 20-year offtake agreement with our partner PGNiG for 1mn mt/yr, and we are looking forward to announcing additional commercial milestones in the near-term.”
