Venture Global picks up gas supply deal for Plaquemines LNG

Venture Global LNG has signed a purchase agreement to receive natural gas from NextEra Energy for its 20mn metric tons/year Plaquemines LNG export facility in Louisiana, Reuters reported April 4.

The deal comes as Venture Global prepares to take a final investment decision on the project ahead of the envisaged launch window in 2024.  Baker Hughes said on March 9 it received the notice to deliver 24 "modular-machinery units" along with the facility's central LNG train system.

Venture Global still needs regulatory approval for the NextEra purchase agreement, having submitted the contract to the US department of energy on March 22, Reuters said.

The company said on March 16 it had executed a 1 mn mt/yr sales and purchase agreement for Plaquemines LNG with New Fortress Energy. It also has a 20-year SPA contract to deliver 2mn mt/yr from Plaquemines to Shell.

New Fortress and Shell both have gas purchase contracts for Venture Global's 10mn metric tons/year Calcasieu Pass facility, also situated in Louisiana, which loaded its first commissioning cargo on or after February 9. Shell's SPA for Calcasieu Pass is for 2mn mt/yr, while New Fortress will source 1mn mt/yr from an expansion of the facility due to start development next year.
