Uzbekistan taps new natural gas well
A new well tapped in southeast Uzbekistan could pave the way for more upstream work to realise a field’s full potential, state-run Uzbekneftegaz stated December 23.
The company said its board chairman, Mehriddin Abdullayev, gave the orders for large-scale drilling operations at the Kulbeshkak natural gas and condensate field in the Karakul district of the country.

The aim is to overhaul old wells, drill new ones and otherwise renovate operations to capture more hydrocarbon reserves.
One new well has already yielded about 70,000 m3 of natural gas per day, as well as minor volumes of condensate.
“Currently, work is underway to equip the well and connect it to the gas collector,” the company stated.
Uzbekistan produces most of its power using natural gas and is looking to double its generation capacity by 2030, while expanding renewable sources to 25% of the mix.
