Uzbek GTL plant reaches 95% completion
Uzbekistan's first gas-to-liquids (GTL) project has reached 95.3% completion, with its commissioning and launch ceremony now scheduled to take place in the second half of the year, the project's operator reported on April 13.
The $3.6bn project will convert up to 3.6bn m3/year of natural gas into 1.5mn metric tons/year of kerosene, diesel, naphtha and LPG. The facility had been due to enter commissioning before the end of last year, but construction was delayed by the coronavirus pandemic.

"When completed, the Uzbekistan GTL will bring Uzbekistan a step closer to achieving energy independence and demonstrate the success of our petrochemical growth strategy which consists of expanding our activities from competitively located feedstock, especially derived from gas, to taking advantage of the growing global demand in plastics and clean fuels," the general director of Uzbekistan GTL, Fakhritdin Abdurasulov, commented.
A gas pipeline linking the Shurtan gas chemical complex to the GTL plant has been completed and is fully operational, Uzbekistan GTL, a wholly-owned subsidiary of state-owned Uzbekneftegaz, said. Construction and installation, landscaping, laying asphalt, painting and insulation works are also nearing completion.
Some installations have already been commissioned at the energy supply plant, including a raw water treatment and processing unit, a demineralised water production system, a fire-fighting water supply system, a fuel gas system, boiler plants and a steam production system, a cooling water system and a cooling tower, the main and auxiliary substations of the plant and instrumentation and control equipment.
The plant's central control panel is also operational and the facility's central laboratory is undergoing national and international accreditation, Uzbekistan GTL said.
