US LNG exports on the rise

US federal data released May 6 show exports of LNG increased from the previous reporting period, with shipments totalling some 84bn ft3.

The Energy Information Administration reported 22 vessels laden with LNG left US ports during the week ending May 5, two more than the previous report. Seven of those left the Sabine Pass terminal, five left Corpus Christi, four each departed from Cameron and Freeport, and one each left Cove Point and Elba Island.

For the previous two weeks, LNG exports held steady at 73bn ft3.

Using data from IHS Markit, EIA reported that the average daily supply of natural gas on the US market declined 0.1% from the previous week. Natural gas imports from Canada declined by 5.6%, while total dry natural gas production was 91.6bn ft3/d, a 0.2% decline from the previous reporting period.

In its monthly natural gas report for April, EIA reported total natural gas imports of 8.2bn ft3/day in February, the last full month for which the agency provided data. That was 18.4% higher than year-ago levels and marked the highest monthly level since 2011.
