US-based Vine seeks RSG certification in Haynesville
US-based Vine Energy said August 2 it expected to become the first player in the Haynesville shale basin to certify its gas as responsibly-sourced.
Vine said it signed an agreement with Project Canary, which has a proprietary certification process to label Vine’s output as responsibly sourced gas (RSG). The certification process begins in November.

“In addition, Project Canary will deploy ‘Canary X’ continuous emissions monitoring devices across locations representing 25-30% of Vine’s natural gas production which will target domestic and international RSG markets,” the company explained.
Vine said that over the last three years it has managed to cut its methane intensity by 62% and its overall greenhouse gas intensity by 35%, while at the same time increasing production.
Vine first entered the Haynesville shale in 2014 after acquiring acreage from Shell. It holds roughly 125,000 surface acres in its current portfolio. It launched its initial public offering in March.
The Haynesville play is the third-largest gas producer among the seven major US shale basins, behind the Appalachia and Permian, respectively. A federal forecast for August shows Haynesville gas production could increase by as much as 1% from July levels to average 13.5mn ft3/d.
