Ukraine Ramps up Gas Imports by 47% in Feb
Ukraine imported 981mn m3 of gas in February, up 47% yr/yr, its gas grid operator GTSOU said on March 13. Imports during the first two months of the year were up 57% at 1.438bn m3.
In January through February Ukraine took 987mn m3 of gas from Slovakia, up 59% yr/yr; 229mn m3 from Hungary, up 41% yr/yr; and 222mn m3 from Poland, up 140% yr/yr.

Ukraine transited 3.9bn m3 of gas in February and 6.5bn m3 in the first two months of the year, down 47% and 53% respectively. In December it agreed a new gas transit contract with Russia, requiring the latter to pay for a minimum of 65bn m3 through Ukraine this year, compared with 89.6bn m3 sent last year. The minimum ship-or-pay level will fall to 40bn m3/yr from 2021 until the contract's expiry at the end of 2024. This year it is paying for more capacity than it is using.
