Ukraine, ExxonMobil Discuss Further Cooperation

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and ExxonMobil Exploration President Stephen Greenlee have met in New York to discuss the possibility of further cooperation between Ukraine and Exxon in Ukrainian Projects.

The meeting, which took place yesterday, "concerned questions of Ukraine's further cooperation with Exxon", Worldwide News Ukraine has reported. No further details of what the "further cooperation" entailed were reported.

At the same meeting, President of Chevron North America Harry Luckett complimented President Yanukovych at the meeting in the New York, Worldwide News Ukraine reported.

"He [said he] appreciated the transparency of the procedures and expressed hope that Chevron and Ukraine had great perspectives in oil and gas-industry cooperation."

In a separate statement on its official website, the Ukrainian government said that the talks centred on how Ukraine and ExxonMobil could cooperate now and in the future on oil and gas projects.

It is necessary to "consider what has been done and what is yet to be done for the development of cooperation between Ukraine and the company," President Yanukovych said.

Exxon-Mobil is currently leading a consortium to explore for gas on the Scythian field in the Black Sea, a deep shelf project in which Chevron, Nadra and Shell also have a stake. The field is estimated to have reserves of up to three to four billion cubic metres of gas.
