Ukraine to Develop Oleska Shale Gas
Volodymyr Ihnashchenko, Ukraine's First Deputy Minister of Environment and Natural Resources has said that the country plans its first tender process for the development of shale gas this summer.
The areas in consideration would be the Oleska area in Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Ternopil regions (western Ukraine). The deposit area exceeds 6,000 square meters.
Ihnashchenko noted that in 2012 the U.S. Geological Survey would provide its analysis of the reserves of shale gas in Ukraine in the framework of an intergovernmental memorandum signed in February.
According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, shale gas reserves in Ukraine are estimated at several trillion cubic meters.
