Ukraine Contracts Winter Gas Deliveries

Naftogaz Ukrainy has contracted to buy about 450mn m³ for firm delivery in Q1 2020 from an unnamed international trader, it said September 17.

"Thanks to the sophisticated European gas market, and despite the risk of interruption of Russian gas transit in winter, we have today contracted the necessary amount of gas for physical delivery in the first quarter of next year. We have fully prepared ourselves for the heating season, injected additional amounts of gas into storage, made the system operable without transit and contracted physical deliveries regardless of what Gazprom may do. This gives us confidence that winter in Ukraine will be warm, whatever our northern colleagues do," it said.

Naftogaz is examining a few other offers that European traders have made concerning gas deliveries in the new year, and will take advantage of them if they are commercially expedient, it said.
